Going through the menopause needn’t be the end of you life as you know it. Follow our tips and you should be able to keep your “sanity” and make this momentous transition in your life easier:

  • Dress in easily removable layers so you can adjust your temperature if you need to. Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothing or high necks and long sleeves.

  • Avoid synthetic fabrics for bedding, as they can trap perspiration and exacerbate night sweats - and sleep with a window open.

  • Laughter is the best medicine and good times may help balance the body’s bio-chemical intricacies. Make sure you don’t stop enjoying yourself and living life to the full.

  • If you smoke, try to quit.

  • As well as helping alleviate stress, relaxation and deep-breathing techniques can give you the quiet reflection needed to come to terms with the change.

  • Make time for something you enjoy, whether it be a massage, yoga or a beauty treatment. Taking up new hobbies can help too.

  • Buy a fan for your home or office to help keep you cool (it really works!)

  • Try to avoid blow drying, straightening or curling your hair to prevent breakages.

  • Steer clear of triggers - if you know a cup of tea or a glass of red wine will trigger a flush, drink something else.

  • Avoid talcum powder, hot baths and perfumed toilet paper as they can irritate the vagina.

  • Have more sex! Women who have more sex tend to lubricate more rapidly when aroused and you could try a natural or organic lubricant to relieve dryness during intercourse.

  • Eat well and exercise!
